Help a person claim every benefit and support program they're entitled to.
Tech partner

Billions in benefits go unclaimed every year — by the people who need them most.
People entitled to benefits, grants, and support programs never claim them because eligibility rules are complex, scattered across agencies, and change frequently. Free eligibility screeners now exist — and research shows they aren't enough: people screen, learn they qualify, and still never enroll. The support exists; the path to it doesn't.

What to build
Your Mission
Build an AI-powered solution that helps a person claim every benefit and support program they're entitled to.
Screening is the solved part — free tools like MyFriendBen already list programs people may qualify for. The unsolved part is everything after: getting from "probably eligible" to actually enrolled, with documents, deadlines, renewals, and rules that change under your feet. Your solution should close that gap — across government benefits, charity grants, hardship funds, and fee waivers — with a source and certainty level attached to every eligibility claim. How you solve it is up to you. Exa gives you grounded, cited eligibility research; the rest is yours.
How to build
Master the Challenge.

Scope
What Success Looks Like
There is no single right solution. You could take the problem in many directions — pick a specific user, a clear decision, and make that experience work well.
Tip:
Don't try to solve the whole problem at once. Pick a specific population, life situation, or benefit category, then make that experience work well.

Requirements
Technical Challenge
Think about how your solution will research every support program a person may qualify for based on their circumstances, attach a source and confidence level to each eligibility claim, guide follow-through — documents, deadlines, renewals — instead of stopping at a list, and stay correct as rules change frequently and differ by place. These are opportunities to explore, not requirements you need to satisfy all at once.
Tip:
Your solution doesn’t need to be production-ready. We welcome everything from early prototypes to fully working implementations and ambitious technical explorations.

Use of tech
Recommended Tools
Exa provides a web retrieval layer that might be useful here. Exa's `deep-reasoning` search can research every support program a person may qualify for — government benefits, charity grants, hardship funds, fee waivers — based on their circumstances, while field-level grounding and confidence scores attach a source and certainty level to each eligibility claim. Whether Exa fits your solution is up to you.
Tip:
Whether or not you use Exa in your solution is entirely up to you.
