Help builders and makers source reclaimed materials before they hit the skip.
Tech partner

Construction and demolition produce around a third of the world's waste — much of it reusable.
Timber, bricks, steel, fixtures, and surplus stock flow constantly out of demolition sites, renovations, and overordered projects — but the listings are scattered across salvage yards, auction sites, marketplaces, and word of mouth. By the time a buyer finds the material, it's gone or landfilled.

What to build
Your Mission
Build an AI-powered solution that connects builders and makers with reclaimed materials before those materials become waste.
Your solution should make sourcing reclaimed material as dependable as ordering new: what's available, where, in what quantity and condition, and how fast a buyer must move. How you solve it is up to you. Exa gives you live, verified listings from across the salvage ecosystem; the rest is yours.
How to build
Master the Challenge.

Scope
What Success Looks Like
There is no single right solution. You could take the problem in many directions — pick a specific user, a clear decision, and make that experience work well.
Tip:
Don't try to solve the whole problem at once. Pick a specific material category, buyer type, or sourcing moment, then make that experience work well.

Requirements
Technical Challenge
Think about how your solution will aggregate listings from salvage yards, demolition auctions, and surplus marketplaces, verify that materials are still available and match spec, enrich each find with quantity, condition, location, and deadline, and alert buyers fast enough to beat the skip. These are opportunities to explore, not requirements you need to satisfy all at once.
Tip:
Your solution doesn’t need to be production-ready. We welcome everything from early prototypes to fully working implementations and ambitious technical explorations.

Use of tech
Recommended Tools
Exa provides a web retrieval layer that might be useful here. Exa Websets can assemble verified listings across salvage yards, demolition auctions, and surplus marketplaces — checking availability and enriching with quantity, condition, and location — while Monitors watch for new listings matching a buyer's needs and structured outputs keep everything queryable. Whether Exa fits your solution is up to you.
Tip:
Whether or not you use Exa in your solution is entirely up to you.
