Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, Psychology, Sociology, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with research design utilizing various methods (e.g., usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, etc.).
Product research experience (i.e., usability or generative).

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Human Factors Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Applied Anthropology, Sociology, or related field.
Experience in applied statistics and programming languages commonly used for manipulating data and computational statistics (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, etc.), and with SQL.
Experience advocating for inclusion and accessibility.
Ability to plan and execute short and long-term research projects addressing complex user problems.
Ability to translate research findings into actionable design requirements and articulate tradeoffs among alternative solutions.

As a User Experience Researcher (UXR), you’ll help your team of UXers, product managers, and engineers understand user needs. You’ll play a critical role in creating useful, usable, and delightful products. Working with stakeholders across functions and levels, you'll have impact at all stages of product development. You’ll explore user behaviors and motivations by conducting primary research such as field studies, interviews, diary studies, participatory workshops, ethnography, surveys, usability testing, and logs analysis.The UXR community at Google is unique and will help you do your best work. You’ll have the opportunity to work with and learn from UXRs across Google through regular meetups, mentor programs, and access to internal research tools.

As a UX researcher embedded in Google’s Hardware Design Studio, you will be working with a growing and dynamic team of researchers (e.g., UX designers, industrial designers, product managers, engineers, etc.) to apply inclusive design practices to re-imagine Google products.

Responsibilities
Lead foundational and co-design research with user populations.
Conduct qualitative and quantitative mixed methods research with consumer populations.
Define resources, tools, and guidelines for hardware accessibility and inclusion.
Lead and participate in design thinking and sprints to help define the problem space and elicit shared understanding of research findings.
Lead user-centered design activities (e.g., persona development, journey-mapping, and task-modeling, etc.).
